Evening meal on Friday, tuition after supper, all day Saturday and depart late afternoon (4-4.30pm) on Sunday.
Preston Montford CentreHave you ever wondered how the intricate images of Bees and Butterflies, Mayflowers and Moths were created in the numerous field guides and other natural history titles you see in all the book stores? Well, this weekend course shows you how, and much more! Beginning with a brief introduction to illustration in general Chris will show you how to start and finish highly detailed paintings/illustrations; from obtaining the first essential reference materials to the preliminary drawings and finally to the full colour image. We shall be practicing basic drawing methods applied to natural history subjects and also discussing picture design and planning, painting techniques using gouache and watercolour, methods of masking and talking about materials such as; the paint, paper, board, bushes and pencils. This course will surprise and delight you with many unusual and unique techniques, not just applied to insects and flowers but also a whole world of other creatures! From September 2003 Chris Shields has been issuing certificates of authenticity with each of his original artworks. Each certificate incorporates a photograph of the painting is embossed by hand and personally signed by the artist.
